The Snail Madonita born from the desire of three friends (David Merlin, Michael Sampson and Joseph Sansone) to do something new and innovative, using the twenty years experience in the agricultural sector to achieve one of the largest herds of snails in Sicily.
The idea came from Michael who, after much research, he discovered the field of 'elicicultura and, having quickly realized its potential, has convinced us to undertake this experience. After a few months we began, with the help of experts in the field and visits to farms already in existence, to realize our dream!
Today, the snail Madonia, with its 2-hectare facility is the largest open-field farming in Sicily and through direct experience, we developed our method of farming that allows us to produce about 10 tons of snails all ' years, ensuring the high quality of meat and appearance of the snails.
The choice of the species Helix aspersa Muller (Crastuna) was not random. This species is indeed still be found in nature in our region as found in the Mediterranean its ideal habitat but, unfortunately, is often destroyed by humans because of the use of agricultural vehicles and pesticides, thus reducing many of the specimens
present.
This has also led to the decline of old traditions such as the collection of snails after spring rains. Today the farm is the optimal solution for a quality product, controlled, biological and why we are available to visit our farm to all those who wish to understand how we raise our snails and take our own work.
Our company deals with supplies for restaurants, festivals, holidays, retail and wholesale throughout Europe including through shipments.
Besides breeding and having direct experience in the field, we are concerned the construction of new farms by providing all necessary materials (poles, special networks, seed selection and breeding) at start of new plants seeing step by step all the stages of implementation until the beginning of the installation.
